Committee Updates:
Tom Galla announced that due to the tragedy, our Golf Tournament has been postponed until Monday October 8, 2001, which is Columbus Day. The Club voiced their agreement with the committee’s decision. There is still a need for more golfers, raffle prizes and sponsorships. Len Germano said that our Rotary District is starting a relief fund for Connecticut residents who have been killed or injured in the terrorist attack. Please provide Len with the names of those you know who have been affected. Mike Rappa, our Membership Chairman, introduced our newest member (#62) Bob Matthews, and Bob’s sponsor Bev Cambras.. Bev Cambras spoke highly of Bob’s personal integrity and professional ability as she introduced him. Bob was then inducted to our Club Bob is a Branch Manager and Vice President of Fleet Bank, and was formerly a member of the Bridgeport Rotary Club in 1986. Mike Redgate awarded Joe Ruospo his Past President’s badge. Bill Zeidenberg read from his minutes of the previous Board Meeting. Among other things Bill said that the Night at the Movies cost the club $200.00, that Marge Anctil is working on a new program for young schoolchildren, that Tom Heaney is the Rotary liaison representative to Trumbull’s Own Chamber of Commerce, that TOCC is still looking for more Rotary plaques for our designated wall spot at the Helen Plumb Building, that we voted to give $450.00 to the Mishkin Israel Day Camp, that we had approved a grant of $1,000.00 to the Costa Rican project previously presented, and that we are working on a project for a Community Grant with the Trumbull Rangers.
Program: Mike Redgate introduced our Club Member speaker Dale Seymour who discussed Intelligence and Some aspects of Security based on his experience in military intelligence, and as a Federal Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration. Dale presently manages his own business as a Private Investigator and Corporate Security Consultant.
After a lengthy presentation including many questions and answers, it is important to remember that the world will never be free of deranged individuals, US citizens as well as foreign, who will harm indiscriminately large members of our fellow citizens. No amount of intelligence or security will ever keep us all always safe, but we can never stop trying to improve our technology, as well as our diplomacy. You should know that there are thousand of dedicated men and women in civilian service, as well as the military, working long hours in the Intelligence community, many of them at great risk, to help keep our world safe from terrorism. May God bless us all.
Raffle: Marge Anctil and Preston Merritt drew for $641.00, with no winner selected.
